Expanding Awareness Under Pressure: Integrating Executive Function into Coaching Conversations
Coaches often partner with thoughtful, capable clients who feel stuck—struggling to follow through, manage competing priorities, or navigate emotionally charged situations.
These moments are not a reflection of motivation or commitment. They reflect how the brain manages attention, emotion, and action under pressure.
This interactive, neuroscience-informed session explores how executive function and emotional regulation influence a client’s capacity for awareness, decision-making, and meaningful action. Aligned with the ICF Core Competencies, the session focuses on how coaches can deepen presence, listen beyond content, and support clients in moving from reactivity to intentional choice.
Rather than offering advice or solutions, this session emphasizes true partnership—expanding awareness, supporting regulation, and enabling client-generated forward movement.
Participants will be able to:
- Recognize how executive function and emotional states influence thinking, decision-making, and action
- Deepen coaching presence during moments of stress or reactivity
- Listen for cognitive and emotional load, not just content
- Facilitate awareness that supports client-generated insight
- Partner with clients to move toward intentional, values-aligned action
Participants will leave with:
- A clearer understanding of why capable clients can feel stuck
- Greater confidence in maintaining presence in emotionally charged moments
- Practical ways to support clients without directing or fixing
- Coaching language that expands awareness and supports meaningful action
