October 2026: President's Message

The energy from the Coaches Summit hasn't worn off. In this month's President's Message, SFBAC board president Alex Walsh spoke with our chapter's Director of Inclusion and Belonging, Charles Reader, whose post-Summit glow was still going strong. As Charles put it, there was "just a lot of positive energy. Good vibes."
When Alex asked Charles why he chose to serve on the board, Charles offered the reframe, "I have the privilege to be chosen to serve."
Charles is deeply invested in the coaching profession and wants to use his skills where they can have the most positive impact. His vision for our chapter is a community where every coach feels seen, heard, welcomed, and has access to the tools and resources they need to do their best work for clients.
Coming out of the Summit, two big topics are on Charles’ mind:
-
Artificial Intelligence (AI). Charles is curious about how coaches can retool their practices to make use of AI. He's also watching a second shift closely: clients are increasingly turning to AI for coaching-style support. What does that mean for our profession and for coaching as a whole? His honest answer was that it's "exciting and it's a little scary."
-
State of the world. There is a lot of stress and trauma right now, and people are struggling. For Charles, that makes coaching more needed than ever, and it raises a question for all of us: how do we become the most effective coaches we can be for people who are going through so much?
Alex agreed. AI is changing what it means to work and to coach. So many people need what coaches offer, especially today.
Charles's framed two questions for all of us to consider as you carry your Summit learnings into your practice:
-
Where could AI support your coaching, and where do you want to protect the human connection?
-
What does it look like to fully meet clients who are carrying more than usual right now?
Share what's coming up for you in your Community Circle, at an upcoming chapter event, or with a fellow coach over coffee. That's how a community of belonging gets built, one conversation at a time.
Thank you for reading, for showing up, and for being part of this chapter!
