The Courage to Keep Learning

One of the things I love most about our profession is that coaching is built on a simple truth: we never stop learning.
Every conversation with a client teaches us something. Every coaching partnership challenges us to see the world through someone else's eyes. And if we're paying attention, every interaction becomes an opportunity to grow not only as coaches, but as human beings.
The best coaches I've met all have one thing in common. They remain curious.
Curious about perspectives they have not yet considered. Curious about experiences different from their own. Curious enough to ask better questions before rushing toward answers.
That kind of curiosity matters now more than ever.
Our clients are navigating increasingly complex workplaces, communities, and identities. They are asking bigger questions about belonging, purpose, equity, leadership, and navigating change in an increasingly AI-shaped world. They deserve coaches who are committed to expanding their own awareness alongside their coaching skills.
That is why I am excited to highlight several learning opportunities being offered through the ICF Global DEIB team this month. Whether you are just beginning your learning journey or looking to deepen an already established practice, these sessions offer practical tools, thoughtful reflection, and meaningful conversation that can strengthen every coaching relationship.
Among this month's offerings are:
-
Global Cultural Competency, which introduces the foundational concepts of culturally responsive coaching.
-
Advancing Cultural Competency in Coaching, which builds on those foundations by exploring cultural nuances, communication, and practical strategies for coaching across differences.
-
Conscientious Inclusion Coaching, led by Dr. Brian Arao, which invites coaches to examine how identity, culture, and power shape the coaching relationship while offering practical ways to create braver, more inclusive coaching spaces.
The July calendar also features Voices of Belonging: Belonging by Design, Creating Equity in an AI-Shaped Future, exploring how emerging technologies intersect with equity, inclusion, and the future of our profession.
As coaches, we often encourage our clients to embrace discomfort as a pathway to growth. None of these programs will make you a "perfect" coach, they’ll make you something better, a more intentional one.
Perhaps our invitation this month is to embrace our own challenges. To stay open. To stay curious. And to continue building the knowledge, awareness, and humility that allow every client to feel seen, valued, and empowered.
After all, our greatest coaching tool has never been having all the answers.
It has always been our willingness to keep learning.
