Group Coaching Supervision: What Coaches Stand to Gain

Posted on Apr. 27, 2026  /  Chapter News  /  0

Anne-Caroline Floch, supervisor-in-training, MCC applicant, and an ICF SFBAC member, recently spoke with our VP, Deb Kopelman about her powerful discovery about group coaching supervision: It doesn't just improve your practice. It transforms how you show up as a coach.

Group coaching supervision is a structured process where a qualified supervisor brings together a small group of coaches to reflect on their work, navigate ethical dilemmas, and explore the emotional challenges of coaching. It's confidential, collaborative, and designed to reduce the isolation that many coaches feel while sharpening their competence through peer feedback.

Anne-Caroline started with group coaching supervision by attending a three-month cohort led by Melanie Le Van Cau Menard through ICF SFBAC. The experience was so invaluable that her group continued together for another six months. That extended journey inspired her to pursue supervision certification herself.

What she gained from the experience:

  • New tools and lenses for post-session reflection
  • Normalization of common challenges (boundaries, pressure for results)
  • Deeper self-supervision and clearer patterns
  • More attunement to what’s happening internally—and confidence naming it
  • More spacious coaching (less talking), supporting MCC-level work

Anne-Caroline sees value in both cohorts and drop-in sessions. Cohorts for the depth, continuity, and psychological safety that develop over time. Drop-in sessions, such as the 90-minute format led by Inga Bielinska, offer flexibility and fresh perspectives. Each format has its place.

Looking ahead, she'd love to see ICF SFBAC offer an in-person group supervision program, perhaps in 2027.

If you're curious about group coaching supervision, ICF SFBAC offers monthly sessions during the first week of each month. The next sessions are

  • May 6 at 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. for Drop-In Group Coaching Supervision
  • May 13 at 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. for a special Drop-In Team Coaching Supervision.
